			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>In the last 2 days, I have had several conversations with people who think advertising on the Internet is completely different than advertising on Mobile devices.</p>
<p>They also all wanted to vent their frustration with me about how they can&#8217;t seem to get anything going for their own Internet businesses.</p>
<p>In each situation, I kept trying to get them all to understand that Advertising and Marketing has changed in almost a century. (Maybe longer than that, but I don&#8217;t study stuff beyond that point.)</p>
<p>In a nutshell, here is what I want you to understand if you are having this same issue:</p>
<p>Advertising and Marketing hasn&#8217;t changed! Only the medium we use to get our message across changes.</p>
<p>I was telling one guy the story of how Sears went from a mail order catalog business to being the largest retailer in the United States at one point.</p>
<p>Here is the link to the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sears">Wikipedia article about Sears</a> if you want to read more about them.</p>
<p>But what many people don&#8217;t realize about Sears was that Richard Sears, the man who started Sears in the late 19th century, was a master copywriter.</p>
<p>His copywriting skills is what gave him an advantage over his competition.</p>
<p>Basically, he was able to master the art of writing words that were designed to get people to want to buy the stuff in his catalog.</p>
<p>Now he also had to compete in price as well and understand the wants, needs, desires of his target audience, etc.</p>
<p>But nonetheless, his unique skills gave him that competitive advantage over other companies who were advertising and marketing to the same audience.</p>
<p>What&#8217;s you competitive advantage?</p>
<p>What&#8217;s your unique skill set?</p>
<p>(If you can&#8217;t answer the two questions above, you have a serious problem that is hindering your ability to be successful with your advertising and marketing strategy.)</p>
<p>In the late 19th century, mail order was the premiere method for advertising and marketing.</p>
<p>It was on the cutting edge of the times.</p>
<p>Then radio came along&#8230;</p>
<p>Then TV&#8230;</p>
<p>Then the Internet&#8230;</p>
<p>Now Mobile is emerging as the new medium that everyone is touting as being the &#8220;Next Big Thing.&#8221;</p>
<p>But the basic foundation of Advertising and Marketing is still the same as it was many, many years ago.</p>
<p>And it ain&#8217;t changing no time soon!</p>
<p>The only thing you should really be focusing on is being able to send a clear message to your target audience about what you have to offer and how it will add value to their lives in some way.</p>
<p>If you can&#8217;t effectively get your message across, you will be unsuccessful regardless of what medium you choose.</p>
<p>Whether you are using the Internet, Mobile, or any other medium for Advertising and Marketing, you really need to understand that the medium doesn&#8217;t matter as much as many people like to make it seem.</p>
<p>Any message can be adapted to be effective for any medium with the right tweaking.</p>
<p>And when you get people to your offer, you need to have a strong enough offer to &#8220;seal the deal.&#8221;</p>
<p>It&#8217;s all about traffic and conversions at the end of the day.</p>
<p>Can you get eyeballs to your offer?</p>
<p>When you get them to your offer, can you convert them?</p>
<p>(Here are two more very important questions you need to ask yourself that&#8217;s much more important than worrying about what medium to use.)</p>
<p>There are many advertising and marketing mediums that exist today and many more may be created before it is all said and done.</p>
<p>But one thing is for sure:</p>
<p>The basic foundations for Advertising and Marketing hasn&#8217;t changed.</p>

<p>Whether it&#8217;s Apps, SMS, QR Codes, Mobile Traffic, etc., the topic of mobile is heating up and it’s still early for what I believe will be an explosion soon.</p>
<p>I have actually been quietly making money in mobile for over a year now, even though most people don&#8217;t know this unless they know me personally.</p>
<p>I don&#8217;t brag about it too much.</p>
<p>But the problem that is getting out of hand is that I have been contacted many times recently because people want me to help them with their mobile strategy.</p>
<p>I have had to turn down several deals because I just don&#8217;t have the time to take on any more projects unless they make sense for me financially. (meaning, I need to get paid for my time accordingly)</p>
<p>People are finding me through my blog, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc. and they see that I own an App and that I am Director of Marketing for the company that produces <a href="http://www.omboapps.com">the Urban Gossip App found here.</a></p>
<p>When they view my <a href="http://www.linkedin.com/in/tommiepowers">LinkedIn profile here</a> they also notice that I am the VP of another company related to Mobile and we run a site called <a href="http://www.mobileismybusiness.com">Mobile Is My Business</a>.</p>
<p>They also see that I am a published author with a QR code on the front of my book (see my book in the sidebar) and immediately feel like I am the guy who can help them. (I put that QR code on the book for a reason!)</p>
<p>I also get a ton of referrals through my network because many of my friends who know me personally know how much I am into the mobile stuff and how I feel about its future.</p>
<p>But you may be asking&#8230;</p>
<p>Tommie, where are you going with this?</p>
<p>Well here is what I am saying&#8230;</p>
<p>The need for more Mobile Consultants is HUGE.</p>
<p>There are many people who are throwing around theories, but not many people who have practical and real world experience who can really help people who so desperately need it.</p>
<p>Especially for mobile apps. </p>
<p>A large percentage of developers have no clue how to market and monetize their ideas and they are having a hard time finding people who are competent with a proven track record to help them.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s really bad and getting worse because so many people are flocking to mobile right now because they want to cash in on the next New Age Goldrush.</p>
<p>That&#8217;s where you come in.</p>
<p>The people that are going to make a boatload of cash in mobile in the not so distant future are going to be the people who can identify problems in the marketplace and provide a solution to fix those problems.</p>
<p>You can help people do this and I want to help you.</p>
<p>But I need to know if this interests you.</p>
<p>I need to know if you want me to publish more information about what I am doing in mobile, what&#8217;s working, what&#8217;s not working, and ways you can use the information I provide to get actionable results for yourself or for others.</p>
<p>So in the comments section below, tell me what you think.</p>
<p>If I don&#8217;t get any feedback, I will assume you don&#8217;t want this information from me and I will just keep going on about my business and keep all the golden nuggets of information to myself.</p>

<p>If you have been following me for a considerable amount of time, I am sure you have heard me mention <a href="http://search.twitter.com/">Twitter Search</a> being the next generation search engine.</p>
<p>I have been using it for quite some time to do keyword research as documented in a previous post detailing how I use <a href="http://tommiepowers.com/using-twitter-search-to-uncover-unlikely-keywords/">Twitter Search To Uncover Unlikely Keywords</a>.</p>
<p>I also discuss in another video how <a href="http://tommiepowers.com/whats-your-twitter-profiles-google-pagerank/">Twitter affects your Google PageRank</a> and what this means for you. </p>
<p>This new finding is particularly important to me because the big &#8220;G&#8221; seems to be putting a lot of stock into Twitter even though they don&#8217;t own them&#8230; YET.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>RANT ALERT:</strong> This is sort of like a rant because I am sick of all these so called Internet Marketing Gurus giving out misinformation, lies, and deceit. This post is going to be very long, but very informative. It’s time for our industry to grow up and take responsibility for all the crap that’s out there and this is my way of helping the cause.</p>
<p>You can also read my post about <a href="http://tommiepowers.com/finding-the-right-keywords-for-your-website-marketing/">Finding The Right Keywords.</a></p>
<p>The #1 secret that most internet marketing gurus are desperately trying to hide from you is that you should <strong>stop chasing keywords</strong>. You should always (I mean <strong>ALWAYS</strong>) start with the market or niche first. Here’s why:</p>
<p>1.	If you take the time to understand your market, they will tell you what keywords you need to use to captivate them.<br />
2.	If you take the time to really research your market on the front end, you will save a ton of time on the back end as well as make a higher return on your investment.<br />
3.	People are not stupid. They know when you are blowing smoke or you are sincere about providing a real solution to their problems. It&#8217;s like getting to know someone on a first date, you won’t do well if the other person senses that you are not willing to take a real interest in them.</p>
<p>Here are some reasons so called gurus don’t want you to know this:</p>
<p>1.	Many of them don’t know much more than you so they want you to believe them in order to sell you something. I was at the most recent <a href="http://www.stompernetlive.com/">StomperNEt Live event</a> and one of the speakers stated that most SEO consultants don’t know what the hell they are doing. They want you to think that it is so difficult because they want to take your money.<br />
2.	Keyword research software companies have a vested interest in making you believe that starting with keywords first is the right thing to do. They want you to believe that their product is the magic bullet that solves all your market research issues. To be fair though, there are many excellent keyword software companies that provide really excellent training to help you understand how to fully benefit from their products and care about you and your business.<br />
3.	If you are ignorant or misinformed, it is easier to force you into some type of continuity program that provides no real value while they continue to milk you for money month after month. Continuity and membership programs are hot right now so there are a lot of snake oil salesmen trying to force you into a continuity that has no value.</p>
<p>You may be wondering by now, what should I do? In my opinion, there are at least 20 questions you should be asking yourself before you make any decision about how to approach market research to be more successful online. Since these 20 questions can vary from one market to the next, I am going to give you 5 basic questions you should ask yourself that can relate to any market pertaining to online marketing. </p>
<p>1.	Do I have a full understanding of my target market in terms of what they want in the online space? You should have a clear picture of your target market and what triggers affect your market online.<br />
2.	Do I have any idea of what products or service are in demand in my market or niche online? There may be products or services in your market that may be in high demand, but either not available online or not being serviced properly by the current offers your market is seeing.<br />
3.	Do I know what is already selling online for my market or niche in places like Amazon, eBay, etc.? This is the easiest thing to do. Find what is already selling online then go make something better and cheaper than the competition.<br />
4.	Do I know the online commercial intent for my market? This means, understanding whether your market likes to purchase goods or services online or not. Some markets have not caught up with the online aspect of making buying decisions on the internet and you should know this before you spend a big investment of time or money to offer an online solution for something your market may not even be interested in. A great place to start for this is <a href="http://adlab.microsoft.com/Online-Commercial-Intention/">Microsoft&#8217;s Adlabs for Online Commercial Intent.</a><br />
5.	Do I understand the demographics of my market well enough so that I can find out where they hang out? If you can pull this one off, you can increase your online marketing ROI by huge numbers. There are tons of resources online to help you with figuring out where your market likes to hang out. You can also use services like Twitter to find out about your market. I wrote a post about <a href="http://tommiepowers.com/using-twitter-search-to-uncover-unlikely-keywords/">Using Twitter For Keyword Research</a> you should check out. Demographics marketing was the single most important factor that allowed me to finally become successful online. I was able to key in on a very specific market because I knew where they liked to hangout. Then I was very aggressive in getting their attention so I could show them my offer that was laser targeted.</p>
<p>Ok, so this is the end of the rant and I hope the light bulbs started going off. If you go and apply some of this information to your online business, I am certain it will help increase your profitability. If you are new to internet marketing, then hopefully you will take this information and run with it. </p>
